Millions
of years ago
a mighty glacier left behind a dazzling mountain range with
spectacularly chiseled spires that came to be known as the Bugaboo
Glacier Provincial Park in British Columbia, Canada. This dramatic
and rugged range of the Canadian Rockies came to be known as
the Bugaboos.

For
centuries, these treacherous spires stood unchallenged,
even by the most fearless climbers. Then in 1910, a brave young
mountain guide named Conrad Kain dared to be the first. During
one expedition to the summit, Kain and his team struggled. As
they stopped to rest, one of the climbers exclaimed, "This
is a veritable bugaboo," borrowing a mining term
used by prospectors to describe a dead-end lead. Kain took his
scoff as a challenge and vowed to reach the top of the spectacular
range before him and name it the Bugaboo Mountains. |

Determined,
Conrad Kain eventually reached the summit. And today,
the sheer rock faces of the Bugaboos have become a beacon to
those seeking adventure, including expert skiers and climbers.
